"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
-Psalm 37:4
This verse is at the front of my journal, set as a reminder. It's funny how verses can take on a whole new meaning, rock your world, and change your life in a few short months. As Christians we often hear that if we ask, we shall receive. The Lord will give you the desires of your heart. It's so true, but the most important part of that verse is the beginning.. "Delight yourself in the Lord..." The key is the delighting part. I was convicted on this when I started praying about this. We want the Lord to give us what we want, but He wants
us first. He wants our
hearts first. When we set our eyes on Him, that's when we will be given the desires of our heart. The thing about it is that when we do that, follow him and seek His kingdom
first, our desires change. They realign with His vision. That's the coolest part.
What a sweet blessing!
Matthew 6 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. It tells us to fully rely on the Lord, outlines how to pray to Him, and instructs us to not be anxious. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (v. 33)." He knows our needs and our wants. He wants to give us the desires of our hearts, but he wants our hearts delighted in HIM. When you put your eye on the cross, on God's grace, mercy and blessings, it has an impact on what you desire. When you seek Him first, his blessings abound. Take up the cross
daily and follow the Lord, and he will show you abundance.
Lovely post, Angela, and a wonderful message that we all need to remember.
